Description:
Chlortetracycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic that binds to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes. It inhibits protein synthesis and has been shown to be effective against various bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Chlortetracycline is used for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. This drug is absorbed well when taken orally, but it is poorly absorbed when given intravenously. Chlortetracycline can be detected in soil samples using chromatographic analysis. The rate constant for chlortetracycline binding to calcium ion was determined at 25 degrees Celsius to be 1.5×10^5 M-1s-1 and the rate constant for uptake by colloidal gold was found to be 2×10^7 M-1s-1.
